About Puerto Rico Diving Gran Canaria

Our Story — Diving Gran Canaria Since 2002

Just a few things about Puerto Rico Diving Gran Canaria, a PADI 5-Star Dive Centre in Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria.
We are Michele (Mike) and Holly, the proud owners of Puerto Rico Diving. Our story started in 2015 when we met in Croatia working as dive instructors. After travelling and working together for a few years, in 2017 we decided it was time to take the plunge and move to Gran Canaria where we invested in Puerto Rico Diving. Scuba diving is a huge part of our lives and without it we would never have met! Thankfully we did and now alongside the dive centre we also now have two children and two dogs. We run our business with the mindset of treating our staff and customers as we would like to be treated, and providing the relaxed scuba diving atmosphere we love.

Puerto Rico Diving Gran Canaria has operated as PADI Dive Centre at the same location within the Europa Centre Puerto Rico on Calle Timanfaya since 2002. Since we took over in 2017 we have earned more than 1,500 five-star reviews on Google and Trip Advisor and won the Trip Advisor Travelers´Choice award every year. At Puerto Rico Diving we love sharing our passion for the underwater world with others, whether you’re here for your first try dive, a PADI certification course, or guided fun dives at the best dive sites in Gran Canaria.

Of course no business would be successful without the members of staff making up the team. We are lucky to have three wonderful instructors working with us who all provide the exceptional customer service we strive for. Every member of our team has a passion for diving in Gran Canaria and showing our divers the best it has to offer. We work hard to make your diving experience as relaxing as possible. This includes our free pick up and drop off service and we will rinse all the equipment after your dive so you have more time to enjoy the blue skies and sunshine here in Gran Canaria.

At Puerto Rico Diving we make the difference!

Meet Our Instructors

Michele (Mike) — Owner and PADI IDC Staff Instructor at Puerto Rico Diving Gran Canaria

Michele (Mike)

  • Dive Centre Owner
  • PADI IDC Staff Instructor
  • EFR Instructor

Michele (Mike) from Italy started his diving career in Australia and Fiji. Immediately bitten by the diving bug he decided to forge a career in the industry and qualified as a professional in Mexico and then Croatia where he met Holly. Mike, now a Staff Instructor, is passionate about maintaining the highest standards in teaching and safety whilst ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere on all dives. Mike has logged over 5,000 dives worldwide and dives across Gran Canaria’s coast daily, choosing sites based on conditions and each diver’s experience level.

Holly

  • Dive Centre Owner
  • PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer
  • EFR Instructor

Holly from the UK followed a similar path starting her diving career in Australia by volunteering on a live-aboard. Like Mike she became a Dive Master in Mexico and then took her Instructor course in Croatia. After working in the Caribbean Holly moved to Gran Canaria. Holly cares deeply about the environment and loves to share her knowledge of the diverse marine life Gran Canaria has to offer. With over 600 dives logged, Holly also leads our snorkelling tours and loves introducing families to the marine life off Gran Canaria’s south coast.

Holly — Owner and PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer at Puerto Rico Diving Gran Canaria

Marion

  • PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor
  • EFR Instructor

Marion is from France, she first tried scuba diving as a child but it was during a trip to Thailand where she really fell in love with the sport. Whilst travelling South East Asia she continued to dive and made the decision to travel to Honduras to complete her IDC and pursue her dream of working as a PADI professional whilst travelling the world. Marion can teach in French and English. Marion has logged over 1,500 dives across the world and now dives Gran Canaria daily. If you want to follow the same path Mike, Holly and Marion took, check out our Divemaster Internship in Gran Canaria.

Marion — PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor at Puerto Rico Diving Gran Canaria

Yes, we hold PADI 5-Star Dive Centre status, the highest PADI rating, and every instructor on the team is a current PADI professional. PADI audits us independently to keep that rating. If you book a course with us your certification is issued directly by PADI.

Mike is a PADI IDC Staff Instructor and EFR Instructor Trainer, qualified to train other EFR instructors. Holly is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and EFR Instructor. Marion is a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor and EFR Instructor. All three hold current Emergency First Response credentials and have taught in multiple countries before Gran Canaria.

We teach and guide in English, Spanish, Italian and French. Mike teaches in English, Italian and Spanish; Holly in English; Marion in English and French. Receiving your briefing in your own language matters for safety, especially on a first try dive.

Three things our customers tell us. First, a 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio (PADI allows up to 8:1, but we cap it lower). Second, free hotel pickup across the south of the island with equipment, DAN insurance and water included in the price. Third, 1,500+ five-star reviews and a TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice award every year since 2017, more than any other dive centre in Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria.

We are on the ground floor of Centro Comercial Europa at Calle Timanfaya 2, 35130 Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria, looking out over the car park. Free parking is available on Calle Isla de Lobos. We offer free hotel pickup from Puerto Rico, Puerto de Mogán, Arguineguín, San Agustín, Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas and Meloneras.

Yes, DAN (Divers Alert Network) dive insurance is built into the price of every dive and course. DAN cover is mandatory under Canary Islands diving rules, and we never charge it as an extra. If you already hold your own DAN policy, bring proof and let us know.

If you cancel at least 7 days before your booking you get a full refund (minus the online transaction fee). Between 3 and 6 days you get a 50% refund (minus fee). With 2 days or less notice there is no refund, but we can reschedule to another date subject to availability, valid for 12 months. If we cancel due to bad weather we always reschedule or refund for dives not taken. The full policy is in our Payment & Cancellation.
