Learn to Scuba Dive in Gran Canaria

Open Water Diver Page

The PADI Open Water Course is the entry level course most recognised around the world. This course is your passport to the underwater world!

The PADI Open Water Course focuses on teaching you how to dive in the safest way, all whilst having fun exploring life under the surface of the ocean.

What will I learnt during my PADI Open Water Course?

This course has 3 sections; theory, confined water dives and open water dives.

  • The theory will provide you with the knowledge of the basic principles of scuba diving. Don’t worry, this isn’t like school!
  • Confined water dives: these will take place in the sheltered bay at Playa de Amadores, which provides the ideal location for you to get comfortable with all aspects of scuba diving. During the confined water dives we will teach you over 20 scuba diving skills, allowing you to practise and master each at your own pace.
  • Open Water Dives: you will make 4 Open Water Dives in the beautiful, blue water surrounding Gran Canaria. Whilst coming face to face with local marine life, you will put the skills you have learnt during your confined water sessions into practise. Each dive will get progressively deeper as your confidence grows.
  • Upon course completion you will have all the knowledge and skills you need to be a certified PADI Open Water Diver!

Can I start the theory now?

Yes, it is possible to complete the theory before you arrive in Gran Canaria. PADI e-learning allows you to do the theory from the comfort of your own home. The e-learning consists of 5 chapters to read, each with videos to watch and questions to answer at the end of each section.

PADI e-learning is by far the most popular choice amongst our students, plus it has the added bonus of no paper meaning it is also beneficial for the environment.

Where will I be diving?

We conduct our training dives at Playa de Amadores, which provides an idea dive site for beginners. We strongly believe that when learning to scuba dive it is best to learn in the same environment you will be diving in the future, the ocean! Playa de Amadores allows us to walk into the water from the beach meaning you don’t need to be worried about getting on and off a boat. This dive site has a gentle, sandy sloping bottom which allows your instructor to control your depth, gradually taking you deeper as you gain confidence under the water. Being in the ocean also means from the very beginning you will get to see a wide variety of marine life whilst learning to scuba dive.

I don’t like getting salt water in my eyes, does this mean I can’t do the Open Water Course?

Definitely not! Trust us when we say, nobody enjoys getting salt water in their eyes. We have a wide variety of masks we use for scuba diving, to ensure that every one has a mask which fits comfortably during their PADI Open Water Course. During the course we will teach you skills so you know what to do in the event of getting water in your mask whilst scuba diving. We promise with our teaching methods you won’t be worried about getting salt water in you eyes after the course.

What do I need to bring?

  • Swim Suit
  • A Towel
  • A change of dry clothes for afterwards

What if I do not have time for a 3 day course whilst I am on holiday?

Do not worry! This does not mean you cannot become a certified diver whilst you are on holiday. We also offer the PADI Scuba Diver course which only takes 2 days! This course will certify you to dive to a maximum depth of 12 metres, and you can upgrade to become on Open Water Diver anytime after you become a PADI Scuba Diver. The cost of this course is €275.
